Freya Hite – artist’s bio/statement
A restlessness and questioning of life’s meaning is the catalyst driving my painting career. Exploring ways a painting might impart beauty, complexity, transcendence, along with experimentation in oils, water media, clays, plaster…it sometimes seems endless– though I’m feeling a synthesis of late.
Growing up in Denver, CO, situated between flat plains and 14,000 foot peaks, is a heads-up study in contrast. I am currently located in Western Colorado, a choice made after spending time throughout the U.S. It is a place of quiet beauty and contrast via sandstone spires and canyons, high desert and mountain lakes. Striking are the warm and muted colors, eroded geographical shapes of every description. My art has morphed stylistically over time, partially influenced by these surroundings. There is a concentration on color, contrast, texture, and, due to feeling like a stranger in a strange land, an other-world feel.
Vacillating between abstraction and figuration, I’m now realizing what so many before me knew, that figures and abstraction walk hand in hand.
We are exhibiting her large fabulous abstract “Transitions” in our IV suite. An online pic does not do it justice, so stop by and see it.
On display through the clinic are many of Terry’s ceramic pieces. Terry is very well know in the Grand Valley and has led The Art Center’s ceramic studio since 1984. With a career spanning over 45 years, he is a respected ceramic artist and educator, and has studied under Paul Soldner and many others. Before moving to Grand Junction in 1983, Shepherd developed and worked out of his first studio in El Jebel, Colorado, from 1972 to 1983. We are blessed to have his work grace our clinic.
Dr. Marchionda currently has a few of her original paintings on display in the clinic. She will have some of her glass pieces on display as well in the coming months.
