Myers

Myers cocktail is a nutrient cocktail developed by John Myers, a physician from Baltimore, Maryland. Our formulation is appropriate for those with or without MTHFR mutations as it contains methylated B vitamins. It is administered by intravenous infusion and is used as integrated support for a broad range of conditions including asthma, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. It can also be useful to aid in recovery from viral and other illnesses, or anytime you may be feeling “run down” or depleted. Recently it has also become a popular for "hangovers". Myers is also a useful when combined with other therapies.

Our Myers cocktail is a vitamin and mineral combination of:

Myers is typically given in 500 ml of saline, but can be given in more fluid to aid hydration or addition of additional nutrients.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C contributes to immune defense by supporting various cellular functions of both the innate and adaptive immune system. Its antioxidant activity can decrease inflammation, which may help improve your immune function. Vitamin C keeps your skin healthy by boosting collagen production, helping the skin serve as a functional barrier to keep harmful compounds from entering your body. Vitamin C can also promote wound healing. It also boosts the activity of phagocytes, immune cells that can “swallow” harmful bacteria and other particles. In addition, it promotes the growth and spread of lymphocytes, a type of immune cell that increases your circulating antibodies, proteins that can attack foreign or harmful substances in your blood.

In studies of its effectiveness against viruses that cause the common cold, vitamin C doesn’t appear to decrease your likelihood of getting a cold — but it may help you recover faster and make the symptoms less severe. There is also some evidence that high dose or IV vitamin C can reduce lung inflammation in severe respiratory illnesses caused by H1N1 (“swine flu”) or other viruses. When taken by IV, vitamin C can reach higher levels in the blood than when the same amount is taken by mouth.

Some studies of IV high-dose vitamin C in patients with cancer have shown improved quality of life, as well as fewer side effects. Further study is ongoing.

Vitamin C is given in 1 liter of saline and typically uses a dose of 10,000 to 20,000 mg of non corn sourced preservative free vitamin C. We recommend a glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) blood test before starting high dose vitamin C infusions, as folks with deficiencies in this enzyme can have difficulties with this infusion.

Glutathione

Considered the body’s most important antioxidant, Glutathione helps the body fight disease. It is produced in our cells to combat oxidative stress (cellular rusting). Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the production of free radicals and your body’s ability to fight them off. Unfortunately our own production of glutathione decreases as we age. Glutathione via injection and IV can help fight off the impact of oxidative stress and aging, which is related to many chronic diseases.

IV Glutathione can quickly restore your cellular levels of glutathione. Many conditions respond well to regular glutathione infusions. It also is often given after a Myers infusion.

Glutathione is typically given as an IV push but can also be given IM at lower doses.

Pure Hydration

Dehydration can occur easily in our desert climate and with certain illnesses. Hydration with normal saline can give immediate relief of symptoms and have you feeling better faster. It can also help restore you after vigorous physical activity such as after a day skiing, mountain biking or kayaking.

Pure hydration is typically done with 1 liter of Normal saline. Lactate Ringers (LR) is also available. You can also add extra fluid to any of our IV therapies for additional hydration.

Iron deficiency is the most common cause of anemia. Many people with anemia do not tolerate oral iron supplements well. In those cases, an intravenous iron infusion can be an effective treatment option.
